March 21, 2022 – UEFA Women’s Champions League action returns with the start of the quarterfinals tomorrow. Host broadcaster DAZN together with its partner YouTube are thrilled to continue broadcasting live coverage of the elite competition for fans globally. This follows a group stage that ended in dramatic fashion and saw an incredible 14+ million views coming in from 210+ countries and territories worldwide on DAZN’s UEFA Women’s Champions League YouTube channel, in addition to millions of streams on the DAZN platform.

The Story So Far…

 The first-ever UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage concluded in December with eight hungry teams emerging for the knockout phase: four previous winners hungry for repeat (Barcelona, Lyon, VfL Wolfsburg, Arsenal) alongside four contenders eager to raise the coveted trophy themselves (Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Juventus).

The stacked quarterfinals will see rivalries renewed and long-awaited meetings of past champions, and seven out of eight of these matches will be played in the main club stadium – a historical first, as these venues primarily play host to the men’s side but demand for the women’s game continues to accelerate it to new mainstream levels.

Round-the-Clock Storytelling 

New adidas Content Series – ‘Get Together’: As the exclusive global sponsor of UEFA Women’s Champions League coverage for DAZN, in addition to a new slate of advertisements set to run during all broadcasts and across all channels, a new content series co-produced by adidas will premiere tomorrow.

  • Each episode will dive into the multi-faceted experiences of some of the biggest names in the sport, with the first featuring the legendary Ian Wright in conversation with Arsenal players Lia Wälti and Stina Blackstenius, while the second will be a sit-down between Bayern Munich stars Leon Goretzka and Linda Dallmann. The content will be shown during halftime throughout remaining matches of the season as well as featured across adidas, DAZN, UEFA, club, and athlete channels.

Other series making up the hundreds of pieces of ever-growing content on InstagramTwitter, and YouTube – alongside all group stage matches available in full on demand – include:

  • Letter To My Hero: In celebration of Women’s History Month, DAZN continues its supersized rollout of content throughout March celebrating heroes in women’s sport. ‘Letter To My Hero’ debuts as a poignant series in partnership with pledge-based social impact football movement Common Goal.
    • In each of the five episodes, football icons and Common Goal members pay tribute to the women that have inspired them most via an emotional narration of a letter to their hero, alongside a candid medley of personal photos and home videos.
    • Episode One, which premiered last week, is a moving tribute from Bayern Munich defender Maxi Rall to her best friend and football hero, Köln player Jana Beuschlein.
  • The Match Up: Revealing fun facts, secrets, hopes, and aspirations of some of football’s biggest figures via an off-the-cuff interview with a fellow woman in the sport.
  • Get To Know: Profiling the biggest stars of the eight quarterfinal teams; already up on the channel are Paris Saint-Germain powerhouse forward Kadidiatou Diani and Juventus goalscoring star Cristiana Girelli.
  • Inside Out: Teammates find out just how just how much they do – or don’t! – know about each other, on and off the pitch, quiz style.

New Broadcast Heights

During the group stage, DAZN was proud to have lined up the biggest on-air team ever assembled to cover women’s football for a single broadcaster – including dozens of professional commentators from England, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Iceland, Sweden, Portugal, and Ukraine.

Collectively, 48 matches were delivered in 11 languages to global audiences via an unprecedented number of feeds, marking the first time the competition has ever consistently been made available in multiple languages – critical to fanbase engagement and growth.

As the competition enters the knockout phase, DAZN is dialing it up another notch with:

  • More access and angles. For example, a Spidercam and extensive pre-game show for the Spanish broadcast from Camp Nou for the Barcelona vs. Real Madrid blockbuster on 30 March, to ensure a broadcast quality fit for the historic occasion.
    • The largest stadium in Europe with an official capacity of more than 90,000 is not only hosting the women’s team for the first time, the sold-out El Clásico is set to break the all-time attendance record for a women’s club match.
  • More dynamic multilingual commentary, guaranteeing an even more engaging viewer experience with more insights, analysis, and enriched discussions. Not only will all 13 matches for the remainder of the season continue to offer commentary in up to three languages, every single language feed of every single match will be also feature at least dual commentary.
    • As such, even more big names are joining DAZN’s ever-growing women’s football on-air talent roster – such as former international footballer and current host of BBC’s The Players Podcast, Bex Smith, joining the team.
  • Dozens of pitchside social reporters will also be on duty at all remaining matches this season, including two at every single quarterfinal match, covering all the real-time action with up close and personal sideline access.
