DAZN ANNOUNCES RECORD VIEWING FIGURES AHEAD OF UWCL FINAL

LONDON, 2 June 2023 embargoed 10:00 (BST) – Dazn, the global sports streaming service, today revealed record viewing figures for its coverage of the UWCL across the 2022/23 season.

The news, coming ahead of the competition’s showpiece final featuring FC Barcelona versus VfL Wolfsburg at the sold-out PSV Stadion in Eindhoven, is further proof of the burgeoning popularity of women’s football and the role Dazn’s coverage and distribution has contributed to this significant growth.

Dazn’s coverage of the UWCL has seen the competition viewed in more than 230 territories worldwide with 50 million views on the DAZN UWCL YouTube Channel across the season to date, up 17% on the 2021/22 season.

Dazn’s viewing figures also show an increase in the number of women (up 3%) and young people (aged 13-34) watching the UWCL. And while there was an increase across all devices, the growth in viewing on mobile phones was particularly pronounced, increasing by 53%.

A recent Crux Sport Report, Value and Impact of the YouTube DAZN UWCL Partnership demonstrated the link between improving visibility, growing value and creating viability. With 86% of participating clubs stating they have seen a direct impact on their fanbase, and 57% of fans said they have an increased desire to follow players and clubs.

Dazn will be hosting a preview show live from inside the PSV Stadion with Shebahn Ahern presenting and former England international, Lianne Sanderson, as guest. Joining Lianne for the main presentation will be main Dazn UWCL host, Semra Hunter, and England’s Euro 22 star, Jill Scott. Dazn viewers will also hear form FC Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas, and Alex Popp from VfL Wolfsburg. Special guests will join throughout the broadcast, including UEFA’s Head of Women’s Football, Nadine Kessler.

Marc Watson, Chief Commercial Officer, Dazn, says: “Dazn is the home of women’s football globally and is committed to increasing visibility and access to women’s football, as well as setting new standards for broadcast and production.  The huge growth in viewership right across the competition demonstrates the growing appetite for women’s football, especially of the quality that Europe’s top teams and leagues bring to the UWCL. The Final, between Barcelona and Wolfsburg, is a fitting showcase of the competition, the standards it is setting, and the fan interest being generated.

“Dazn is part of the story of the continued growth of the women’s game as the most significant investor in Europe, which is why, in partnership with UEFA, we will be moving our global offer for the UWCL to a mix between free and paid for access. We believe that the visibility and interest our partnership with YouTube has created now has to move to providing value and viability in order for the UWCL, as well as the broader women’s game, to continue to thrive and reach ever greater heights.”

Dazn continues to tell stories and produce new series making up the hundreds of pieces of ever-growing content on Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube – alongside all this season’s UWCL matches available in full on demand. The Game That Changed Football: a film about the historic UWCL Clásico between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF in front of a sold-out Camp Nou in March 2022 is also coming soon to Dazn and YouTube.

Tune into the UEFA Women’s Champions League Final FC Barcelona versus VfB Wolfsburg – on Dazn.com and Dazn’s YouTube Channel – from 14:00 (CET).
